Know the most important home hair care tips that will help you keep your hairstyles longer and healthier!
- The most common enemies of healthy hair are: medications and birth control that include hair loss as a side effect (Note: Most birth control causes hair loss in round patchy areas in the crown, nape and temples on the head and can take up to 3 months to 5 years to show its effects.); improper relaxer/color applications by unprofessional and professional people that include going over or under the processing time listed; applying relaxer on previously relaxed hair or anywhere other than the new growth without protecting those areas as we can; believing the myth that the longer you leave it in the straighter it gets; not using a conditioning and emulsifying base like ours that protects the scalp; using any kind of grease, petroleum-based grease or mentholated base to base the scalp which can not emulsify and opens the pores and guarantees irritation or burning, which is the number one reason why so many clients have sensitive or re-occurring burn areas in their hair; choosing the wrong relaxer/color strength and type for your texture, density and overall condition of your hair, which is the number one reason relaxer/color clients are experiencing dry, brittle hair. Because they do not know how to correct it they blame the relaxer instead of the person’s lack of knowledge, and this is the number one reason why clients begin believing that going natural is their guarantee for healthy hair not knowing it takes the same instructions and more to keep virgin hair healthy. Also, many clients hear the word “Natural” and automatically hear “Healthy” and this fuels their belief that; “Natural hair is healthier than relaxed hair,” and this is so far from the truth and a very simple hair and scalp consultation can prove it.
- We know that many people have heard that brushing their hair will add sheen and luster as well as increase blood circulation which promotes hair growth. Although this has truth to it, it is only true when using the correct brush otherwise you may be pulling your hair out of your head. Most brushes that are being used at home are the hard to medium bristle brushes. These type brushes do not have the ability to move with the hair, they are semi-stationery and they actual pull out the hair. The brushes with very soft to soft bristles are designed to add sheen, luster, increase blood circulation and promotes hair growth. Our Hair Care Specialist will gladly show you which brush is which and this will help prevent clients from hurting our healthy hair care plan by making the mistake of pulling their hair out unknowingly. We do stock the appropriate brush for our clients to use for wrapping their hair as well as styling and blow-drying. Ask your Hair Care Specialist for more details.
- True healthy hair is achieved when both the client and the stylist have the same knowledge and are not trying to compete with each other. Also when both are willing to unlearn to learn. As Hair Care Specialists we are continuously being taught hair care knowledge that causes us to rethink our old misleading teachings or flat out wrong techniques. We all have learned to be honest enough with ourselves to recognize that those teachings and techniques were wrong and the blessing is that we now know what is the right way as well as the new and improved way. We hope this will cause our clients to do the same thing when it comes to their knowledge about hair care as well. With that said, we must let each client know that the best way to help us achieve the healthiest hair possible, whether natural (virgin) or chemically treated (relaxed, permed or colored), they must submit to some form of detoxing their bodies. All of our Hair Care Specialists have learned about the new process of detoxing the body’s organs through the feet and can recommend where to find the facility that’s closest to you. You ca beginning with these two places: Greenbrier Family Chiropratic in Chesapeake Virginia @ (757) 436-6677 and Cheri’s Skin & Nail Boutique @ (757) 313-2247 or (757) 362-7341. Now in conjunction with the detox plan we recommend beginning a regiment of taking our (TalkHair.com) “Heal Thy Hair” vitamins that are specifically designed for hair, nails and skin. All the details of the “Heal Thy Hair” vitamins can be found on www.talkhair.com or ask your Hair Care Specialist for a TalkHair.com Magazine (these “Heal Thy Hair” vitamins are sold within the salon and on-line and can be mailed out as well). We also have many other choices of supplements that reduce stress, clean the colon, improve blood circulation and memory, promote cellular regeneration and energy boost on the following website: http://www.ardysslife.com/10-Nutricion.aspx?ID=talkhair. All orders made from this site are mailed Fedex and you will receive them very quickly. Detoxing your body must be followed with plenty of water and vitamins and if you submit to that, then you and your Hair Care Specialist will have no problem achieving optimum healthy hair, whether natural (virgin) or chemically treated (relaxed, permed or colored). Note: All our Hair Care Specialist are well trained in achieving the healthiest hair possible, but the reality is that we are only allowed to take care of your hair 10% of your hair care time the other 90% remains in your hands even if you come every week because hair care includes what you do and do not eat and drink, what you have to take under doctors orders (medications and birth control and their side effects) and what stresses you emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually. We know that people tend to keep these areas of life confidential. Therefore, we ask that you request a private consultation to discuss the above areas of your life in order to know what products can or can not be used on you at that time if ever. Remember, we both win when we have the same knowledge and agree to use the same products.
- Each season brings a new challenge for your hair, but one of the most prominent seasons for hair care issues is the winter. The reason why, is because all clients tend to dress warm and they break out their wool coats, wool blend sweaters, scarves and turtle-necks, their crow shade wraps and scarves as well as all the above items that are made of cotton all for the sake of keeping warm. However, they never knew that those type fabric and knit items actually pull out the hair wherever it meets and normally that is the nape or the neck line of the clients head as well as the ends causing split ends. This is the reason we see so many clients with more split ends and balding nape areas in the winter and because they did not know the fabric is the culprit, they blame their stylist. We suggest that all clients wear one of our inexpensive silk or satin “Nape Scarves” the entire winter season to prevent this from happening. As for the warm season and those that sweat in their heads, whether from hormonal changes or working out and taking showers as well, we suggest that each client wear one of our inexpensive cotton scarves (or bandanas) during each of these scenarios. When working out and if you have a wrap, please wrap your hair in a circle, place the cotton scarf around your hair and keep it on during the entire workout session. Since the scarf is made of cotton it will absorb a major part of the moisture and if you have time, please sit under a dryer and/or allow your hair to dry completely in the wrapped position before combing it down. If you do not have the time to sit under a dryer or allow it to air dry, please keep your hair wrapped in the circle with the cotton scarf on and then blow-dry your hair with a hand held dryer circling your head for about 5 – 10 minutes or until you feel its dry. Then comb the wrap down, the cotton scarf can also be worn in the shower underneath a shower cap so that it will absorb any moisture or wetness that may get on your hair. Here is a note for wrap hairstyles: never sleep in a cotton scarf or bandana unless you sweat heavily in your head at night. As for curly styles while working out, night/day sweats and showering you must consult with your Hair Care Specialist about using our Influance Pressing Crème on the curls as well as your scalp because of its unique ability to repel moisture. But for added moisture protection on the hair we recommend mixing the Influance Pressing Crème with the Influance Curling Wax. Then you must wear one of our inexpensive hairnets. The hairnet is designed to keep your coated curls in position during working out, showering and night/day sweats. You must keep the hairnet on during each of these times and you must allow your hair to dry by way of a sit-under dryer, a hand held dryer or air dry and not remove the hairnet until you feel your hair is dry. Your curls will fall back in place and with a little fluffing, a couple of sprays with our Influance Firm Holding Spray or our Influance Medium Hold Styling Spritz, you will be on your way. We absolutely do not recommend re-rolling your hair especially when using rollers that are made of sponge or prickly material because they will pull your hair out; please ask your Hair Care Specialist to suggest what to use in your emergency cases. The same hairnet and Influance Pressing Crème with Curling Wax principle can be used for those of you who workout and have night/day sweats, who wear marcel curls, flips, flicks, spikes, Mohawks, waterfalls and etc. We would still recommend our Influance Firm Holding Spray, Medium Hold Styling Spritz and in some cases our Influance Firm Hold Styling Spritz.
Remember, we both win when we have the same knowledge and agree to use the same products.
